Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) is one of the country’s longest-running automotive manufacturers and is the second largest vehicle brand. With 71,001 vehicles sold in 2017, Mitsubishi Philippines holds a market share of 14.98% with a significant lead over third-ranking Hyundai. Today, Mitsubishi Motors maintains more than 50 dealerships in the Philippines and is managed by MMPC’s President and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Mutsuhiro Oshikiri. MMPC’s main headquarters is located in Santa Rosa City, Laguna where it also operates a vehicle assembly plant, producing units like the Mitsubishi Mirage and Mirage G4. Mitsubishi continues to be a popular marquee for Filipino’s with products like the Mitsubishi Montero Sport and Mitsubishi Xpander receiving critical acclaim.

MMPC operations began on May 5, 1964, with the formerly Chrysler Philippines Corporation. Fast forward to today, MMPC prides itself as one of the country’s most competitive automotive manufacturers, excelling great figures in most of the country’s automotive industry categories. Its assembly plant in Santa Rosa, Laguna has the capacity of producing 50,000 units per year, expandable to 100,000 units per year.

Mitsubishi is known for its heavy investment in electric vehicles and crossover SUVs. In the Philippines, MMPC’s lineup ranges from small hatchbacks to huge SUVs – all known for their reliability, value for money, and relatively-high resale value. The company is also one of the pioneers of bringing in EVs and PHEVs in the country in order to push the study and development of EV infrastructures locally.

Globally, Mitsubishi started out as a shipbuilding company. Financier and shipping industrialist Yataro Iwasaki founded Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. (Mitsubishi Shokai) in 1870, just two years after the Japanese Meiji restoration. Mitsubishi then began to explore land transportation and the world of cars in 1917, thus prompting the creation of Mitsubishi Model A – a car that many recognize as Japan’s first series production automobile. Fast-forward to 1970, and the official automotive arm of the now well-known Mitsubishi Group was established. Named as the Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC / Mitsubishi Jidosha Kogyo), it rose to fame as quickly as its automobiles sped to success on the road and on the track. Today, MMC is part of the Renault–Nissan–Mitsubishi Alliance, which, together, sell more than one in nine vehicles worldwide.
